In my opinion, the most important aspect of self-awareness is to know where we are on the continuum, and what that means for our decisions. If we are consistently falling into a pattern of certain behaviors, that doesn’t go unnoticed, and it isn’t going to improve. It may even go backwards, because we have already made up our mind about what we will and won’t do and have convinced ourselves that the behavior will be a positive step forward.
In this case, I think the most important aspect is knowing the “why” we are doing the behavior, and then working through that what we are doing is not a bad thing. Although we can’t always know exactly why we are doing what we do, we can learn to avoid doing it in the future. We can work through the reasons why we are acting certain ways, and see that they are not going to be a permanent part of our life.
It sounds a little bit like the behavior is going to be a habit, but I think that we have to be careful in how we apply that to ourselves. If we are going to commit to a behavior we know we will have to have a goal or purpose for that behavior, like we need to be on a diet or in a bad mood, then I think that we need to be clear about what that is.
I think that we all have things that we do that we believe are permanent. I’ve been thinking a lot about this lately and it seems to me that we have to be extremely careful about making permanent decisions. We need to be very clear about what we are committing to and what we are committing to only. We need to make sure that we are not going to be doing that forever.
One of the reasons we sometimes call ourselves “emotional” people is that we tend to make decisions that we feel are permanent. When a relationship ends, we tend to make a habit of making the same decision for a lifetime, or we may make a habit of making a decision that is going to be permanent.
Yes, permanent decisions are important. We also need to be clear about how we are making those decisions which is why we feel it is important to do it with great care. One of the most important things that we can do is to make sure we are not making that decision for a while. We need to be very clear about what we are committing to and what we are committing to only. We need to make sure that we are not going to be doing that forever.
One of the biggest things that we can do is make sure that we commit to only the things that we are ready to commit to. We can do this with our careers and our families. We can do this with our children. We can make sure that we are not going to do something that is going to be permanent.
