I am a 23-year-old college student. I was born with dyslexia, so I’ve always struggled with reading. As a child, I remember my mom telling me that I was just too young to read and that I should read books myself. At one point, I thought that was funny.
I remember my mom giving me a book when I was like 9 or 10 years old. It was about a boy who had dyslexia and was forced to memorize some of the most popular books in history. It reminded me of my mom’s old “no reading until I’m 20 years old” motto.
It’s almost as if old school dyslexia has something to do with how we read, and how we process information. You know, like the way some people, when they read something they may not even have seen, seem to remember it just like they would if they had seen it for the first time.
I’m sure that we’re all aware of the effects of dyslexia, but the way that the word is used in books, movies, and video games is almost like an “internal” mechanism for the brain to make sense of information. Not only do we often process information more quickly and accurately (thus allowing us to make more accurate decisions), but we also have a tendency to remember things more faithfully.
In his book, “The Dyslexic Brain” author Richard Alpert discusses a fascinating phenomenon called “lil reese”. In his case, a person with dyslexia will often have trouble processing information when faced with the first few sentences of a book or movie. Rather than processing all the information in the sentence, their brain processes it in a different way.
For example, they will often find it easier to process a sentence like, “The boy is a good person” rather than one where the word good can be used to describe the boy in the sentence. They are more likely to remember a sentence like it’s less boring and more like a conversation rather than one where characters speak in a dull monotone. In some cases, they will remember the same sentence word by word rather than it being a long string of letters.
Lil reese, like most people, is a very forgiving person. Even when it comes to the word good, he will say it without hesitation. The sentence above wouldn’t be a problem if the boy in it was a bad person, but Lil reese is a good person.
Lil is one of the few people who remembers the sentence best, and when he is able to recall exactly what it was, he will be able to recall it better. That way he can remember that he was the one who got him the party island and that he can remember the words that he used to end up on the island.
Lil is a very forgiving person, but he also has a very clear memory of what it is that he did. He remembers the sentence, he remembers the words he used, and he has a clear idea of what the boy/girl was talking about. Lil is a very forgiving person and can remember things just as well as a person who has a much clearer memory of the specific thing they want to remember.
Lil has no memory, but he does remember his birthdate, which makes him a very old person. Lil was born on August 1, 1992, which makes him older than 35.
